Abstract

The binomial sampling plan for Frankliniella occidentalis was developed in hot pepper greenhouses. Hot pepper plants were randomly selected and divided into upper, middle, and lower sections. For each section, three flowers with F. occidentalis were tapped in a vial containing 70% alcohol then inspected under stereo microscope. Binomial relationship between mean density of F. occidentalis and proportion of three tally thresholds (1, 3, and 5) were evaluated and validated. The optimal tally threshold for constructing a binomial relationship model of F. occidentalis was determined to be 3. Validation analysis was conducted using independent data through the RVSP (Resampling Validation for Sampling Plan) program, employing Fixed-Sample Size (FSS) and Wald’s Sequential Probability Ratio Test (SPRT). The FSS had a tally threshold value of 3, and the SPRT had upper and lower boundary values of 0.55 and 0.32, respectively, with 1000 simulations performed. The simulations demonstrated the effectiveness of the developed binomial sampling plan, as the differences between the actual mean and the predicted mean were negligible.
