Abstract

This study investigated the occurrence of Atractomorpha lata in Cheongju and Jeungpyeong and assessed the developmental period, adult longevity, number of eggs, and hatching rate at each developmental stage under different temperature conditions (20°C, 25°C, and 30°C). The first nymphs of A. lata began to appear in late May, adults appeared in late July, and the density of adults was the highest in mid-August. The sex ratios of A. lata at all developmental stages sampled from Cheongju and Jeungpyeong were similar at 0.49 and 0.45, respectively. Females and males exhibited differences as they reached adulthood after the 6th and 5th instar nymph stages, respectively. The developmental period of nymphs at each instar became shorter with increase in temperature; notably, females had a longer period than males at all temperatures. The longevity of adults decreased as the temperature increased, and both males and females survived the longest at 20°C, at 127.3 d and 158.9 d, respectively. As the temperature increased, the pre-oviposition period decreased but the number of eggs laid increased. However, the number of eggs in the egg masses did not differ significantly under different temperature conditions. Eggs of the A. lata hatched only at temperatures above 30°C, showing a hatching rate of 52.0%. The findings of this study provide baseline data for controlling A. lata.
